Silage Cutters

Heavy-Duty Hydraulic Silage Cutter | Commercial Block Cutter for Tractor Loaders

Engineered for high-capacity dairy farms and commercial feedlots, this hydraulic silage cutter slices compacted forage cleanly from bunker silos, preserving feed quality by preventing air penetration and secondary fermentation. Built with a high-tensile structural steel frame and wear-resistant Hardox cutting edges, it mounts directly to farm tractors, skid steers, and telehandlers.

Key Features

Staggered Tooth Profile

Minimizes breakout force required during initial penetration, reducing load spikes on the loader hydraulic system.

Closed Hydraulic Circuit

Twin double-acting hydraulic cylinders enclosed within protective housing to prevent silage acid corrosion and mechanical impact damage.

Low-Profile Floor Plate

Enters dense maize or grass silage without bulldozing the bunker floor, ensuring a clean extraction face.

Grease-Free Pivot Bushings

Hardened steel pins operating in composite bronze bushings to withstand high shear loads without premature wear.

How It Works

The unit connects to the auxiliary hydraulic circuit of the host loader. Positioning the machine vertically against the bunker face initiates the cutting cycle. Dual hydraulic cylinders drive the forged side knives downward through the compacted forage. Once the vertical cuts are complete, the bottom horizontal shear blade closes cleanly across the base, isolating a solid feed block that remains securely gripped in the tines for transport to the TMR mixer.

Machine Configuration & Main Components
01.

Cutting Blade Assembly

Laser-cut boron steel with serrated edges bolted to a rigid carrier beam for field replacement.

02.

Hydraulic Cylinders

Heavy-wall honed steel tubing fitted with Parker polyurethane seals rated for peak pressures up to 250 bar.

03.

Frame Structure

Box-section chassis welded using gas metal arc welding (GMAW) per AWS D1.1 standards to resist torsional twisting under uneven loads.

04.

Hydraulic Hoses

Two-wire braided steel reinforcement hoses with standard BSP/JIC swivel fittings.

Manufacturing & Quality Control

CNC Plasma Cutting

Plate components cut on high-definition CNC plasma tables to maintain plus-minus 0.5 mm dimensional tolerance.

Weld Inspection

100% visual weld inspection with magnetic particle testing (MT) applied to high-stress pivot brackets and cylinder mounts.

Pressure Testing

Every assembled hydraulic cylinder and manifold block undergoes a 3-minute static pressure test at 1.5 times working pressure prior to painting.

Surface Treatment

Shot-blasted to Sa 2.5 standard, primed with zinc-rich epoxy, and finished with a two-component polyurethane topcoat resistant to organic acids and UV exposure.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation

Secure the unit to the loader quick-attach frame, connect the primary pressure and return hydraulic lines, and couple the case drain line if applicable. Verify full cylinder stroke without hose pinching.

Daily Maintenance

Grease pivot pins and cylinder trunnions every 50 operating hours. Inspect cutting edges for chipping or loose retaining bolts. Check hydraulic lines for micro-abrasions or fitting seepage.

Applications & Suitable Users

Large-scale dairy farms operating total mixed ration (TMR) wagons.

Beef cattle feedlots requiring daily high-volume forage distribution.

Agricultural machinery importers and regional farm equipment distributor

Biogas production plants processing dense maize silage feedstock.

FAQ

Q: What minimum loader hydraulic pressure is required to operate this silage cutter?

A: The unit requires a continuous operating pressure of 180 bar and a minimum oil flow rate of 45 L/min. Loaders operating below 160 bar will experience reduced breakout force and slower cycle times.

Q: Can this cutter handle frozen maize silage during winter conditions?

A: Yes. The 12 mm boron steel blades and reinforced box-section frame are rated for frozen forage extraction. However, operators should reduce descent speed when penetrating frozen crusts to prevent premature blade edge dulling.

Q: Are replacement blades and tines available as separate wear parts?

A: All side knives, bottom shear blades, and bottom tines are modular and fastened with high-tensile grade 10.9 bolts. Replacement wear components can be shipped individually from stock.

Q: How does a block cutter prevent secondary fermentation in the silo?

A: Unlike bucket loaders or shear grabs that tear forage and leave a loose, fractured surface, the clean vertical and horizontal shear action leaves a polished, sealed bunker face. This restricts oxygen penetration, preventing aerobic spoilage and heating.

Q: What loader mounting systems can be factory-fitted?

A: Standard production units ship with Euro-mount or Skid Steer plates. Pin-on brackets, loader-specific quick-attach hooks (JCB Q-Fit, Manitou, Merlo), and adjustable bolt-on backplates are available per order specification.

Q: What is the warranty coverage for the hydraulic cylinders and structural frame?

A: The structural steel frame carries a 24-month warranty against manufacturing and weld defects. Hydraulic cylinders and seals carry a 12-month replacement warranty against internal bypass or leakage under normal operating parameters.
